Well, he's dead now, but I would have loved to meet Luis Bunuel. The first time I saw L'Age D'or and Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, I instantly understood why we were put here on earth: to make people laugh out loud at things they aren't too sure they should laugh at, and to throw them off their familiar guards. I really want to meet Winnipeg's finest, Guy Maddin. I think his approach to film is awesome and respect him for being the auteur he is able to be. I think it's great that he shoots with a Bolex and always has a cornucopia of super 8 cameras on set. His sets are elaborate and in such controlled environments (ie rented out warehouses) and i find that really inspiring.
